Remembering Ms. Shakuntla Malhotra: “Houston’s Mama “!!!

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Ms. Shakuntla Malhotra, a cherished patient of mine for the past 20 years. At 96 years old, she was a symbol of love and blessings to everyone she met, affectionately known as "Houston's Mama" in the Houston’s Indian Community. In the past two decades, Shakuntla Ji attended numerous Houston functions with her Journalist son Jawahar, always spreading warmth and joy. I fondly recall presenting her this January with the Jai Shri Ram stole for the invitation of Houston festivities of the Inauguration of Ram Mandir temple in Ayodhya, a moment that deeply touched her. This March, her sons organized a Celebration of Life function that saw over 200 people come together to honor her remarkable life.

Even a week before she passed, her indomitable spirit shone through as she came for a visit invariably accompanied by her son Jawahar , as I examined her in the car itself as she was too frail to come inside, while my staff even drew labs while she was in the car in our parking lot. I fondly remember that during every visit , she always greeted me with a Namaste and a big smile, always treating me like her son and showering blessings not just to me but to our entire staff.

Shakuntla Ji will always be remembered for being an eternally optimistic person . Her presence brought immense joy and gratitude to our lives, and she will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

May her Soul rest in peace!

Om Shanti ! 🙏🙏🙏
